Progress: Progress is the development or movement to an end goal. From my knowledge, the Progressive Era is the time period between the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 1920's that is know for the social reformed and political activism. The Progressive Reforms addressed the economic, political and cultural questions that came with the new age of Industrial revolution, eliminating problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and corruption. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_Era 1. Although there were some pretty interesting and totally untrue predictions of the future made 100 years ago, such as walking 10 miles a day, removing letters C, Q, and X, or being able to regrow limbs, there were some pretty accurate ones. For example, we do have bigger fruits thanks to GMO's, humans have gotten taller, trains have become increasingly faster, and people are able to make phone calls from around the world. 50 years ago, it was clear that people were really focused on solar powered vehicles taking over the world with the solar powered cars and airplanes. To me, some of the 100 year predictions were not wish list but rather predictions. I feel like no one would wish to remove certain letters from an alphabet (unless someone has some serious animosity about those letters). However many others seemed to be wishes such as communicated from anywhere in the world, people walking 10 miles a day, and having a really fast train. It seems to me that many people in the past...

https://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2012/11/vote-no-on-womens-suffrage-bizarre-reasons-for-not-letting-women-vote/264639/ After reading The Atlantic, the reason many "voted no" to the idea of giving women the right to vote in the first place is because 90% of women either "did not want it" or did" not care." I'm not exactly sure why many women didn't care. This may be due to the culture of that time where women mainly stayed inside the house, so possibly many of the politics that they would be voting for would not have an effect on them. The Atlantic continued to state that 80% of women eligible to vote are married. As a result, many of the women would just be emulated the husband's vote having essentially net effect of zero in voting percentages. The article then continues on to say that giving women the opportunity for women to vote would result in competition between men and women instead of cooperation. I really do not believe...

Political Cartoon On Imperialism

link In this image, Uncle Same is holding up babies that each have text on their clothes: Philippines, , hawaii, Cuba, and Puerto Rick ("Porto Rico"). Uncle Sam, representing the United States, seems overwhelmed trying to take care of these colonies, with his hair being pulled, Cuba hanging on his overalls and overall disorder. I believe the author of this political cartoon is not an advocate of imperialism as he/she is trying to say that the the expansion of the United States has grown far too great and it is starting to get out of hand. Link This picture depicts Uncle Sam again but this time carrying a lot of materials from steel rails to books labeled education with what appears to be price tags. He is carrying these items across the Philippines to what appears to be China with signs that contain list of resources need such as 50,000,000 sewing machines. With the price tags and the tiresome expression on Uncle Sam's face, it is clear that the author does n...
Korean War

Korean War The Korean War started when the Soviet Union invaded Imperial Japan in 1945, who at this point had control over Korea. The official Korean War did not begin until North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950. The Korean war though at first hand seems like a Civil War between two different governments in Korea, seems to be more of a fight between communism and democracy. The war consisted of more than just Koreans fighting, receiving support from China and the Soviet Union in the North Korean side and the United States on the South Korean side. The main reason the United States entered the war was because they were afraid of another potential world war if China and the Soviet Union, both of which are communists, were to get involved, which they did. They felt the need to contain the war to just east Asia rather than the potential case of it spreading all the way to Europe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War#Imperial_Japanese_rule_(1910%E2%80%931945)
